LE SSERAFIM, a South Korean girl group with a passion and encouragement to be fearless, had an album drop on August 30, 2024. This album is their first album after a huge controversy. LE SSERAFIM, a group under the agency Source Music, consists of 5 members: Huh Yunjin, Nakamura Kazuha, Miyawaki Sakura, Hong Eunchae, and Kim Chaewon. The group previously had a 6th member named Kim Garam who left due to a bullying scandal. These 6 girls debuted on May 2, 2024 and Kim Garam left on July 20, 2022. Many described their debut song, ‘Fearless’, as unique and a great music identity.
The album LE SSERAFIM got hate on was named ‘EASY’. The album consisted of the songs ‘Good Bones’, ‘EASY’, ‘Swan Song’, ‘Smart’, and ‘We got so much’. On a Friday morning at 5 am, many were bursting with joy to watch the “EASY” music video when it had just come out. Fans expressed their love in the comments such as, “OMG, they never disappointed me, AND CHAEWON??? SHE’S SLAYING SO HARD, this is her era.” by @washuwashuwa on YouTube. Another comment was “Sakura visuals, Kazuha visuals, Eunchae visuals, Yunjin visuals, Chaewon visuals. They are so pretty!!” by @angela_mks.
Later into the week, many had looked further into the music video seeing that the members were dancing inside of a church with “revealing clothes.” Some people disapproved and took it straight to the media. Anti-fans did the only thing they could think of which was to comment criticizing messages on LE SSERAFIMS social media such as Tiktok, Instagram, and YouTube.
This was only the beginning, LE SSERAFIM did their best to just ignore comments while fans defended them with comments about how the agency controls the music video, not the group.
LE SSERAFIM later performed on a South Korean music show. While doing their live encore, many did not like their vocals. The hate proceeded to the day that LE SSERAFIM performed at Coachella. Then all the rage broke out… Even more people started to comment malicious words on their singing skills because they sounded “horrible” and “strained.”
LE SSERAFIM used to have loving comment sections with no hate, but now the loving comments fight to overthrow the hate. Since the girl groups comment section was filled with hate at the time, all their comment sections were shut down to prevent any further hate. Many other opinions rose during the church controversy asking what the problem is with dancing and singing in churches since a lot of people do it. Though they still get hate, their fans are standing up for them.
The album that was just released contains 5 songs by the names of ‘Chasing Lighting’, ‘CRAZY’, ‘Pierrot’, ‘1-800-hot-n-fun’, and ‘Crazier’. The concept of this album is very cool. Even though the concept photos consist of crazy hair and striking outfits, the meaning of the album is that youthful life can be beautiful, even if it is lacking crazy. The members wanted to convey the action with sincerity and empathy.
I personally loved the album, every song was unique and catchy! The main song on the album, ‘CRAZY’, is my favorite. Its genre is dance and electro pop.
I asked around to people who have heard of LE SSERAFIM and got some reviews. Mia Nguyen, who is a friend of mine, reviewed the song and said, “It’s good. I love the beat.” I agree with Mia! The beat is very catchy. I also asked another friend of mine, Trinity Thompson, and she responded with, “In my opinion it’s a 8/10. I love the bridge so much in ‘CRAZY’!
Many are pleased with LE SSERAFIMS album. After about 3 days, I still have not seen a negative comment on the music video. Some positive comments consist of “WHY DOES LE SSERAFIM KEEP SURPRISING US??? THEY ALWAYS ATE THEIR COMEBACK??? SERIOUSLY???” by the account @riyuhnnnn on YouTube. Another comment I saw said “Le sserafim will never be the untalented group yall want them to be, this is another banger” by the account name @melissanowak6248 on YouTube.
Though there are no hateful comments on the music video, there have been some comments going around TikTok because the outfits are apparently not “crazy enough” with the album name being ‘CRAZY’.
At the end of the day, no matter who you are in the world there will always be people who may disagree with you. For example, LE SSERAFIM will continue to come out with new albums and there will always be someone who will dislike them. This means that you shouldn’t care what other people think and you should be yourself!
