It has been a couple of months since the film adaptation of the novel “It Ends with Us” hit theatres. During the promotion tour for the film, co-stars Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively had their share of difficulties with each other. Blake Lively took the heat from the media due to what most considered an insensitive representation of the film during her marketing tour. For a couple of months, Blake Lively’s reputation quickly went downhill. Past supporters were now questioning her character and even her acting.
Recently, it has been made aware to the media that Blake Lively had a lawsuit against Justin Baldoni. Why, may you ask? Blake Lively is suing him for sexual harassment. When news first hit the streets, viewers were on Lively’s side because no matter how bad her reputation was, her situation was not to be taken lightly. However, as both sides released more evidence, viewers didn’t know what to believe.
In retaliation, Baldoni shortly afterward filed a $400 million countersuit against Lively. The evidence presented by both Baldoni and Lively was released to the media. Current assumptions or theories circulate in the media as to the purpose of this sudden lawsuit as well as who is in the right and who is in the wrong.
Starting off the fight, Lively alleges that Baldoni had created a hostile work environment through his inappropriate sexual comments and his violation of her personal boundaries. She explained that this would occur on set during intimate scenes as well as offset when he allegedly went to her trailer. She also asserted that Baldoni had orchestrated a smear campaign to tarnish her reputation by discrediting her on social media. Lively even includes texts between her and Baldoni that express her reluctance about filming intimate scenes and request that they postpone it until the end of the shoot. However, Baldoni responded by reassuring her that she would look “amazing in those scenes.” On the other hand, Baldoni reveals certain texts that provide more context to the situation than what Lively lets on. He presents a voice memo sent to Lively where Baldoni apologized for questioning the changes she had made to certain film scenes. He also includes the continuation of the texts sent by Lively where he reassured her that she would look amazing and that he would address her request to adjust the filming schedule.
This battle between actors has even been rumored to have influenced the author of It Ends with Us, Colleen Hoover, to go into an early retirement. Although this has not been confirmed by anyone, the rumors have circulated all throughout the media.
The two actors are still in the midst of their lawsuit with no current judgement having been made regarding their legal dispute. We can only wait for further information to surface.
