Starbucks announced their discontinuation of 13 different drinks on their menu. On March 4, 2025 these drinks will be removed. These drinks are considered “less popular” and aren’t purchased as frequently. This is apparently an effort to try and boost sales.
Additionally, the coffee shop wants to focus on simplicity and shorter wait times. According to Starbucks, drinks “can be complex to make or are similar to other beverages already on its menu.”
This is only the beginning of Starbucks removing drinks. They want to reduce the menu (food and drinks) by 30% at the end of the year.
Drinks that are currently being removed from the menu:
- Espresso Frappuccino
- Caffe Vanilla Frappuccino
- Java Chip Frappuccino
- White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino
- Chai Creme Frappuccino
- Caramel Ribbon Crunch Creme Frappuccino
- Double Chocolaty Chip Creme Frappuccino
- Chocolate Cookie Crumble Creme Frappuccino
- White Chocolate Creme Frappuccino
- White Hot Chocolate
- Royal English Breakfast Latte
- Iced Matcha Lemonade
- Honey Almond Milk Flat White

On top of these drinks being removed from the menu, 1,100 workers are being laid off. None of these workers that are being fired are people who actually work inside of the Starbucks locations, it is more corporate. USA Today explains, “Laid off employees will be offered comprehensive severance packages that may include pay, healthcare, and career transition services.”
This is interesting because Starbucks has already been changing their recipes and now they are removing drinks that some people love. With the recipe changes I’ve heard from a few friends that their coffee appears to be watered down. I would not be shocked if sales decline even more; especially if this is only the beginning.
