Located in the heart of the Big Apple, SNL has been a renowned comedy television production since 1975 and just released a 50th Anniversary Show to celebrate their five decades in production. Broadcast live from Rockefeller Center’s Studio 8H, SNL is a series of comedic sketches during which celebrity hosts join an award-winning ensemble cast. The world’s greatest celebrities from A to Z have hosted SNL.
Since premiering on October 11, 1975, nearly one thousand hosts have graced the stage, including Tom Hanks, Taylor Swift and Alec Baldwin. As one of NBC’s most prominent money makers, SNL has generated $500 million for NBC.
A compilation of satirical news and digital shorts, alongside favored musical performers, SNL is widely renowned as an American late-night institution and continues to earn high praise from audiences for its takes on pop culture.
Tugging on the heartstrings of the audience, pop sweetheart Sabrina Carpenter and Simon and Garfunkel’s Simon performed an inspiring rendition of “Homeward Bound” to commence the celebratory night.
The NBC’s Saturday Night Live 3-hour anniversary special featured several special guests and former cast members, including John Mulaney, Kim Kardashian, Dave Chappelle, Adam Sandler, Tina Fey, Robert De Niro, Will Ferrell, Pete Davidson, Chris Rock, Pedro Pascal, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, Drew Barrymore, Emma Stone, Scarlett Johansson and many, many more.
Of course, SNL could not produce a 50th Anniversary Special without reviving some of its most popular and iconic comedy sketches. The audience was in hysterical tears watching some of SNL greatest skits revamped, including, “Black Jeopardy!,””Debbie Downer,””New York 50th Musical” and a crowd favorite, Marcello Hernandez as the hilarious “Domingo,” featuring heartthrobs Pedro Pascal and Bad Bunny.
NPR News states, “Many of the heartfelt cameos and the callbacks to classic sketches were worthy of a show that has served as the foundation for Hollywood’s comedy establishment for decades.”
Musical compilations from some of the world’s biggest artists rocked the night.
To further fuel the fire that is this iconic night, rock idol Miley Cyrus and eccentric guitarist Brittany Howard blessed the audience with a jaw dropping, earth shattering duet of Sinead O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2U” alongside The Roots.
To bring the night to a heartwarming close, rock legend Paul McCartney blessed the audience with a powerhouse medley of the Beatles’ “Golden Slumbers,” “Carry That Weight” and “The End.”
Here’s to another 50 years. Congrats SNL!
