BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
My life is now complete! Minecraft officially released their movie on April 4, 2025. For many of us Minecraft fans this is long awaited. This is because back in February 2014 it was announced Mojang, Minecraft’s Owners, were talking to Warner Brothers about creating a movie. Obviously, many would infer that the movie would come out soon, but we were all completely wrong… Initially, it was scheduled to come out on May 24, 2019, but unfortunately, Jill Messick, one of the producers, died. This pushed back the release date further to April 4, 2025.
MINECRAFT MOVIE PLOT:
In this movie, a mythical portal pulls four misfits into it. This portal takes them to the overworld (of Minecraft). For these misfits to get back home, they need to travel forward on a magical quest with the help of a crafter named Steve.
REVIEW:
I 100% recommend this movie. This movie is a four out of five stars on my rating list, but I do have some complaints.
I believe Minecraft’s background music is actually a huge part of Minecraft’s popularity. Some of the background music and tracks included in the game even trended on Tiktok during 2020-2021. As far as I can remember, not once did I hear a Minecraft song, which bugs me because the songs bring back major memories. The in-game music is a big part of Minecraft.
During the movie, Minecraft’s “overworld”, which is a block world, is considered a different realm, which I personally didn’t love. The plot of the movie may have been completely different, but it just didn’t feel right making the overworld a world where real humans don’t live. Unfortunately, the overworld and Earth were two separate things
I understand that the movie can only be so long, but I feel like they didn’t gather the full experience of Minecraft. They completely skipped over the end, a realm you travel to when you are trying to beat the game.
Though I may have had complaints about the movie, there were still some fantastic moments.
Throughout the movie there were special cameos from older Minecraft Youtubers. Many, including myself, were excited because I grew up watching those people play the game.
Numerous people probably think that the movie theater would be filled with younger children, but to my shock there were mostly teenagers and older people watching the movie. It just proves how many ages this movie can attract.
Overall, this movie was awesome. My friends and I were even able to ask for a special popcorn bucket and drink cup. This movie brought back memories like no other and I can bet I am not alone on this statement.
