Fun Lunch at West Boca is one of the many social highlights of each school year’s first semester. As one of West Boca’s primary fundraising occasions, Fun Lunch gives students the opportunity to sell food, treats, and other goodies to raise money for their clubs.
However, after emailing one of the saddest pieces of news in West Boca history, Ms. Ostrow has announced that Fun Lunch is no longer permitted under district policy.
As stated in the district guidelines, we are no longer allowed to have the sale of any food items during the time frame of 30 minutes before the school day starts until 30 minutes after lunch service has ended. And in order to avoid interrupting educational time during the latter part of the school day, Mrs. Ostrow thinks hosting a Fun Lunch at 1:30pm is not an effective solution.
Additionally, in the past, some clubs have sold food or drink items on random occasions throughout the year to celebrate holidays, spirit weeks, etc. Please note that the selling of items is now only permitted within the district outlined time frame: 30 minutes before the start of school and the end of school.
Not all hope is lost. In hopes of helping our West Boca clubs and ensuring WB students have adequate fundraising, Mrs. Ostrow expresses her hopes for an alternate fundraising event: “I am working with SGA on an event in the fall that I believe could turn into an opportunity for clubs and organizations to sell food items as a fundraiser. Details will be coming shortly.”
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Ostrow.
