Last “Saturday” night, Katy Perry had her last show of The Lifetimes Tour in North America here in Miami, Florida. Known for her theatrical and interactive live performances, Katy Perry left the audience completely blown away. I had the honor of attending, and once the show ended, I was left completely speechless.
Katy’s tour wasn’t just a live performance; it was a whole experience. She created a magical and interactive experience for her audience, which had a futuristic and sci-fi aesthetic that resonates with the theme of her latest album, 1432. She immersed us in a story where the audience was playing a video game with her as the main character, KP143, who played a warrior battling an evil AI, Mainframe, who destroyed the world in which Katy saved through love, music, and rescuing trapped butterflies. Each phase of the video game represented her different albums and eras. She began with her newer songs, like “ARTIFICIAL” and “Teary Eyes”. As the story progressed, she sang her classic songs such as “Hot N Cold”, “California Girls”, “Teenage Dream”, and more while blending her most popular songs with her newest singles.
Even at 40 years old, Katy is riding huge butterflies, flying through the air, fighting aliens, and performing acrobatic-inspired dances, all while singing her iconic songs. From beginning to end, Katy gave a mouth-dropping performance, surprising her audiences and evoking every emotion in them. As Katy encountered the evil villain, she performed her song “Rise,” which transmitted a feeling of empowerment, and there are truly no more words to describe the heart and emotion she sang with.
As Katy was saving the world and freeing the butterflies, she flew one herself while performing her classic song, “Roar.” It was incredible! The production, design, storyline, lighting, dances, and her voice left me in complete awe! Katy’s family-friendly show brought everyone together! The concert was overall an enchanting experience, from seeing fans’ outfits that were inspired by her albums, from space suits, jungle outfits, and candygirl outfits. The love and dedication in her performances and atmosphere were felt in every rhythm and in everyone.
During the show, Katy was also extremely motivational. She captivated the audience with her inspirational words like, “If you have the dream, you can make it come true!”, “You know who you are, don’t ever listen to what anyone else has to say about you!”- Hearing her say all that made me feel like I could do anything! She was so kind and funny, constantly making jokes, interacting with the crowd, and even bringing fans up on stage! She personally picked them out of the crowd and brought them up to help her sing her heartwrenching breakup song “The One That Got Away”.
There was only one way to end the show- singing “Fireworks,” and she left everyone speechless, well, as a figure of speech, because the crowd was singing their hearts out, and you could hardly hear Katy herself. Suddenly, I was brought back to my 7-year-old self, being completely mesmerized by her video clips, and in that moment, I couldn’t believe I was hearing it live.
After tearing up during fireworks, the show ended in an instant. Now it’s just something both my 7-year-old self and 18-year-old self can’t believe I’ve experienced. It was captivating and nostalgic, especially because I had the pleasure of attending the concert with my childhood friend who I grew up listening to Katy Perry with, which made the night even more special.
If Katy Perry ever has another concert, don’t be the one that got away and ensure your tickets!
