On Tuesday October 7th, West Boca’s Wind Ensemble went to FAU to perform a variety of pieces that they have been preparing since the beginning of the school year! This was not an easy task due to the short amount of time until this performance, however, the Wind Ensemble did not let this be a reason for them to back away from playing challenging music.
In reality, this concert has been planned for almost exactly a year, as Wind Ensemble was planning to perform this exact concert last year. However, due to Hurricane Milton, it unfortunately got cancelled. West Boca’s conductor, Larry Shane, was determined to make this performance happen regardless of the obstacles. With the help of FAU’s director, Dr. Prescott, everything worked out, and anticipation was built up for this concert to finally happen!
With multiple rehearsals completed, West Boca’s Wind Ensemble was ready to perform! The band arrived at FAU at 5 PM to rehearse their music and to also hear FAU’s wind ensemble’s rehearsal since they would also be performing that night. As one of the performers, it was incredibly fascinating to see so many dedicated musicians on the same stage, and West Boca was even able to see our alumni who now play at FAU!
Soon enough, at 7 PM, the concert began! West Boca’s Wind Ensemble played four pieces, including an even mix of technical and melodic music. The audience enjoyed this performance, and multiple West Boca parents were there to support the band. Then, FAU performed a couple of pieces as well, including a few recognizable melodies from well-known composers such as John Williams.
Although the crowd thought the concert was over after FAU finished playing their set, West Boca’s Wind Ensemble got back on stage to combine both bands to play a lively march. Josgard Montejo, a musician who is also part of West Boca’s wind ensemble, says, “This was a special night to remember, and I’m glad that we were able to reschedule this concert.” The reactions from the audience were incredibly positive, and the concert ended with the cheers of many and a standing ovation! All of the musicians left the stage with a smile on their faces, and there’s no doubt that special memories were made through this performance.
