The band and chorus academy explores the mentality of who you can become by learning a new skill or gaining a new perspective. The Academies were created to give students an opportunity to learn more about their artistic abilities that they want to explore. What is so special about these academies is how mentors influence individuals to build habits that lead students to succeed in life.
The band academy in West Boca Raton is called The West Boca Vanguard, and includes concert bands, jazz bands, and a percussion ensemble. The performances showcase the capabilities, talents, and motivation for their work. Mr. Shane is the director of the band academy, and his goal for the students is to learn a love for music by exploring the field of different instruments and to be proficient. For band students, a regular day consists of working on technique and fundamentals. The band academy is a place where students work as a team to succeed together in working on their music.
Also at West Boca, many students audition to be part of the vocal academy, so it helps to find people with different vocal tones. Students work hard when practicing inside of school and outside of school, which includes going to events. As the director of the vocal academy, Ms. Moore’s goal for her students is to give her students opportunities by going on different trips or events that will allow them to find what they are passionate about, exposure to different cultures, and different music types. The bond between students is created by going to socials hosted by Ms.Moore, where students get to spend time together outside of school and socialize.
The choir and band academies are a resource for students to express themselves in different ways with music, but both of the academies at West Boca advise students to take the opportunity to learn or relate to music more deeply.
