With built up anticipation towards seeing who will be performing at the 2026 Superbowl Halftime show, people from not just across the country but around the world have given their thoughts on the announcement of Bad Bunny being the headliner! Since there is so much happening all over the nation, this announcement goes past hearing Bad Bunny’s music. Due to controversy over culture and representation, there are many mixed opinions as to whether or not this was the right decision.
A major factor that plays into these mixed opinions have to do with politics. More specifically, how ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) has impacted many, mostly within the Hispanic community. Because many families have lived in fear due to the mass deportations happening across the country, Bad Bunny has openly spoken up about this. As a major symbol for the Latino Community, Bad Bunny has used his platform to not only talk about social justice, but he has made it a major theme within his most recent album DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS (I should’ve taken more photos).
Bad Bunny has recently been on a world tour for that same album, which has seen plenty of success. However, Bad Bunny made the decision to skip doing a North American leg for his tour to avoid putting fans at risk of encountering ICE by simply attending his concerts. Instead, Bad Bunny has decided to accept his invitation to headline for the 2026 Superbowl, which has been seen as a bold move that will no doubt be used to do more besides perform music.
Considering that the Superbowl is the most broadly viewed sporting event in the country, many feel that Bad Bunny will use this as an opportunity to make a grand statement about everything happening to the Latino community today, and the role that they play in American culture as well.
On the other hand, others have spoken up and been vocal about their opposition to Bad Bunny performing at the Superbowl. Aside from people mentioning that he is not an “American artist” (He is in fact American and a citizen of Puerto Rico) or does not speak English in his music, people have shown concern over how Bad Bunny is openly against the Trump Administration and ICE.
Until February 8th, 2026 comes around, many will continue to wonder how impactful the Superbowl will be beyond just a game of football. The impact may not just be seen through touchdowns and trophies, but rather the message shared through Bad Bunny’s performance.
