Get Holly and Jolly- 3 Christmas movies that you MUST watch this winter!

Julia Palhares, Reporter

Christmas is right around the corner and it only means one thing: it is time to spend Friday night drinking hot cocoa (maybe not so hot, we are in Florida, after all) and watching Christmas movies! These are my personal top three:

Home Alone (1990)

This classic brings a sense of comfort and familiarity with a comedic twist. When the young Kevin wakes up to an empty house, he thinks his Christmas wish of having no parents has finally come true; when in reality, his parents forgot him at home. His newly found joy transforms into fear when he realizes some people are trying to break into the house. What is he going to do? Set up traps? Definitely. To enjoy a good laugh all you need is to (re)watch this masterpiece.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

The classic dilemma: Is it a Halloween or a Christmas movie? I consider it a Christmas movie since it follows the story of Jack Skellington, the king of “Halloweentown” who stumbles upon a Christmastown and plans to take over the holiday. He tries to implement the holiday but the townspeople (or should I say town monsters?) are not pleased with it. He captures Santa and realizes his plan might go in the wrong direction… to find out what happens, make sure you watch it!

Unaccompanied minors (2006)

Oh, the winter holidays and the beautiful snow… Maybe not so beautiful when it becomes the reason five kids can’t fly home for Christmas. Alone in the airport, the five kids ride around in golf carts and slide down baggage chutes and create a holiday mess. They end up locked and separated and must draw up a plan to escape from the hands of the evil airport manager. This movie never fails to entertain me and although it’s not as well-known as the others on this list, it is a must during the Christmas season!
