The fall season has begun! Pumpkin spice lattes and frappuccinos are back!
Many places like Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts are offering these drinks. Even though fall during Florida is very anticlimactic, it is still very much promoted by these coffee shops.
This season, popular rapper, Ice Spice, has come out with a fall drink. Ice spice has blown up over the course of this year with her music. She has become a hit sensation with collaborations with stars like Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift.
“Ice Spice Munchkins Drink”, the new fall frozen coffee that is pumpkin flavored to match her iconic orange hair. The drink is also named after one of her hit songs, “Munch” which later created the nickname “Munchkins,” for her fanbase. The Ice Spice Munchkins drink is a frozen coffee blending with pumpkin munchkins, topped with caramel, and whipped cream. She is seen advertising this drink with Ben Affleck in a Dunkin commercial.
The drink has been trending due to Ice Spice being the cover photo for the drink and the amount of sugar contained in it. A small is 590 calories, a medium is 830 calories, and a large is 1080 calories! The drink has 185g of total sugar! A large is equivalent to 4.5 glazed doughnuts!! People are expressing their concerns and shock with these nutrition facts. Searching X brought up the response: “830 CALORIES???? Ahhh d*** Ice Spice finna give me high blood sugar” (@jenhanshaw). The nutrition facts are very appalling considering it’s just a frozen coffee.
Review
I have recently tried the new Ice Spice drink. The drink was visually very appealing, it had a beige base with whip cream and caramel drizzled on top. I had gotten a medium. To be fair, I do not like coffee so my opinion is very different and biased. But there are other things I can comment on besides one of the main components in the drink. I personally love pumpkin munchkins but when blended into the drink they are basically tasteless chunks. You would think that there would be a strong pumpkin doughnut flavor. The taste was also very strong but that could be the coffee coming through. The pumpkin flavoring by itself felt like it was only 20% of the drink. The so-called pumpkin flavor was more so a cinnamon flavor. The lack of pumpkin flavoring could also be because of the Dunkin’ I went to.
Besides all the negative qualities of the drink, it had one positive which was it is refreshing due to it being a frozen coffee. Personally, I did not like this Dunkin’ drink but if you’re a coffee and pumpkin lover I would give this a try!
