On Thursday, September 21st, the Aviation Academy flew over to the Boca Raton Airport for a field trip! Rebecca Kittay, The Bullseye’s photographer, accompanied me to take pictures. During this field trip, the main goal was to show that aviation has many different careers that are steering the growth of the industry. When the students first arrived, they were met by Atlantic Aviation’s staff in their meeting room. The students received ID tags and an informational booklet while the Atlantic staff went through introductions. The staff went over safety expectations and plans for the day, which included visiting Privaira Private Air Charter, Reliable Jet Maintenance, and Lynn University Flight School. First stop: Privaira Air Charter!
When the students arrived at Privaira Air Charter, they met the staff members and got to know more about what they do in their day-to-day lives. The aviation students went to the tarmac and were shown a fuel truck and a plane up close. They also had the opportunity to visit one of the hangars the airport has. In the hangar, a few employees were working on maintenance for the plane while the students got to meet the owner of the airport. They were allowed inside the cabin and personally got to experience it. Afterwards, the students got to visit Reliable Jet Maintenance to see mechanics actively working on planes.
The students had a working lunch where they could personally speak to the Boca Raton Airport’s staff. The staff provided lunch for everyone while there were a few speakers. One of the speakers spoke about an aviation scholarship that was available for seniors who took any kind of aviation class. After lunch, the aviation students went to Lynn University Flight School where they had a simulator and more planes to look at. Three of the aviation students got to personally experience the simulator. The simulator was a virtual experience showing students how it feels to fly a plane, with takeoff, landing, and everything in between. Once the aviation students returned to Atlantic Aviation, they were treated with cookies, a goody bag, and a quiz. The goody bags contained a pair of sunglasses, two aviation-themed keychains, pens, notebook, and more. Overall, the field trip was an amazing experience that put into perspective everything an airport has to do. The aviation students learned a lot and now can really think about their potential futures in aviation!
