Hello Seniors! Welcome to another school year! As we gear up for the exciting journey ahead, let’s dive into some important dates, tips, and reminders to help you make the most of your senior year!
Important Tips for a Successful Senior Year
- Stay Organized: Use a planner to keep track of assignments, deadlines, and extracurricular activities. Set reminders for important tasks and don’t procrastinate!
- Graduation Requirements: Ensure you’ve met all school requirements, including courses for AP or AICE diploma if pursued, and community service hours.
- Careful with Seniorities: It’s hard to keep the motivation of coming to school, but hang on! Avoid missing school, as it will negatively impact your academic performance!
- Start saving: Senior year is expensive, it has many events like prom, homecoming, Grad Bash and other activities. So start budgeting early so you can enjoy all the experiences without going broke.
How to be part of the Senior Spirit!
- Senior backpack: If you have not already done so, buy a kid’s backpack and use it in school! It’s not only fun to remember the start of the school journey but it is also a way to continue our tradition!
- Senior Crown: It is also a tradition in our school to use crowns! If you did not get yours already make sure to stop at the nearest Burger King and get one! To make it more fun you can personalize any way you want, so it makes it more you! And most importantly, don’t forget to wear your senior crown on the 25th of every month!
College Application Reminders
- College Research: Start researching colleges, and even tour if you can, for your dream schools and safety schools.
- Common App: If you haven’t started your Common App, now is the time. It’s a lengthy process, and many colleges require essays, so make sure to prioritize it!
- (Pro tip: Ask a trusted English teacher to review your college essays!)
- Letters of Recommendation: Ask teachers with whom you have a good relationship for letters of recommendation as you will need for college applications.
- SAT/ACT: If you plan to retake the SAT, December is typically the last month to take to include in college applications for regular admissions. For early applications, October or November is the latest month to take.
- (Early Decision/Early Action Deadlines: November 1-15, 2024)
- (Regular Decision Deadlines: January 1-15, 2025)
- Scholarships: Keep an eye on scholarship deadlines, many are already open, so start looking!
- (Federal FAFSA Deadline: June 30, 2025)
Additional Resources
- Raise Me: A great app where you can track your classes, test scores, and other achievements to see how much you can earn in scholarships.
- SAT Prep: If you’re not satisfied with your SAT score, use resources like College Board and Khan Academy to practice before December.
- College counselor: Email or talk to Dr. Keller if you have any questions or concerns about anything, he’s a life saver!
