Student drivers are wreaking havoc in the West Boca high school parking lot. Having a parking space is a privilege that students constantly neglect. Over the past few years, there has been a common occurrence in which students will park in the parking lot without a parking permit and take other people’s spots.
As a highly respected and A-Rated school in the county of Palm Beach, West Boca has a reputation to uphold. West Boca’s faculty and staff are fortunately working hard to implement many new systems to ensure efficiency on campus, however, there is a clear dilemma that has failed to be resolved over the past few years. There is an ongoing struggle occuring within the gates of West Boca regarding the chaotic student parking lot. West Boca’s parking lot has evolved into a battleground. Left and right, students are mindlessly parking wherever they please disregarding the designated parking spots assigned by authorities.
In order to receive a designated parking place and a tag, students must report to Student Service’s with a copy of their license, registration, id, and a notarized form. Only then are they allowed to utilize the student parking lot. When these careless individuals park wherever they please, it is simply unfair to individuals who legitimately purchased a parking pass.
Fortunately, as of August, 2024, the WB staff has decided to implement “parking lot checks,” where students’ cars and passes will be examined. Watch out students! Vehicles without a displayed WB parking pass or that are parked in a spot that is not registered to their name, will be reported to the office and administered a warning or punishment. In the event that a student’s spot is taken by another car, students have been told to take a picture of that car’s license plate and report it to the front office. Mind blowingly, some students even park in the faculty parking lot, which is clearly designated for staff and visitors. When certain individuals choose to “ditch the system” and park wherever they want, it disrupts the person whose spot they took. And when that person parks in a different spot, it screws up the day of the person whose spot they just stole. The cycle is neverending!
Furthermore, to fuel the frenzy that is the WB parking lot, parents have also become a pain. Parents often utilize the student parking lot for pick-up at the end of the school day. Additional cars cause nothing but traffic and chaos. It takes the majority of students twice as long to exit the parking lot. The school car line on the other side of the school is the perfect place for you to pick up your kid! The student parking lot is not for you. I understand that people chase convenience and often it is at the dispense of others, but we plead that the rules are followed as best as they can be.
As a whole, in order to achieve full efficiency within the WB parking lot, this chaotic environment must be tamed! Please, park responsibly and act with consideration on the proud West Boca campus. This unnecessary problem must come to an end.
