Introducing West Boca High School’s new police Officer, Officer Leiva, who is also known as “Officer Nabi”!

Officer Leiva was born and raised in Miami, Florida but her background consists of Cuban and Ecuadorian.

She started off her police career with Miami Beach PD then she went on to work in the legal system. Officer Leiva worked in the Public Defender’s office and the Small Business Administration.

Her favorite part of being a police officer is the students. Student interaction is what she lives for; she loves creating bonds while also making sure we are safe. The stigma around police officers over the past few years has been terribly negative. Officer Leiva wants to ensure that she is a trustworthy ally that anyone can come to.  She also wants to address to everybody that there are still good police officers out there.

I then asked Officer Leiva about the process of police training. She said that you have to work out for sure. When she joined Miami Beach PD they sent her to a rigorous police academy for a total of six months for basic training. Following that, she had to do a post-academy with her department that hired her which means she completed nine total months of police training. In these training sessions you need a lot of mental and physical strength. On top of that they have to conduct background checks, interviews with yourself and your family, and drug tests.

It was a pleasure to interview Officer Leiva, West Boca is definitely grateful to have an amazing, trustworthy Officer!

Hi! I’m Brianna Jarzomkowske and a junior at West Boca. This is my first year with The Bullseye and I am very excited to add my creativity to it! I enjoy watching sports, specifically hockey (Florida Panthers) and football (Chicago Bears). I also love to read romance novels in my free time. I’m really hoping to pursue my dreams of becoming a Sports Medicine Nurse and getting a Nursing degree at either UF or FAU. I can’t wait for this year! :)
