If you are a subscriber of DIRECTV, then you have most likely been wondering why some of your channels that you pay for don’t work. Popular streaming programs by the names of Disney Plus, ESPN, ABC, Hulu, Freeform, and FX are being temporarily taken off of DIRECTV and U-VERSE customers rotations. All of these channels are distinct in their own way.
One of the channels listed is Disney Plus. This channel consists of cartoons and series for younger audiences. According to the news website, License Global, “50% of American households with children under 10 watch Disney.”
If you are a sports lover of any age, in all likelihood you have heard of ESPN. ESPN is also another channel that is being temporarily taken over by DIRECTV and U-VERSE customers rotation. As stated in the statistical information website, Statista by Julia Stoll, “…ESPN+ had around 24.9 million subscribers at the end of its third fiscal quarter of 2024.” Also, the NFL football season recently started. A great number of NFL games are broadcast on ESPN.
Another popular channel that contains popular Tv shows and series is being delayed too. This channel is ABC. Some of the popular shows on ABC are ‘9-11’, ‘The Rookie’, and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.
Hulu has been around since 2008. It is also one of the streaming programs being delayed and it contains many popular shows. It has more than 50 million subscribers over the past 3 years. Some genres consist of action, crime, horror, comedy, and many more.
A different streaming platform that includes young adult streaming services is Freeform. I have never heard of the streaming program Freeform, but supposedly it is a channel for adults and becoming adults. The age gap can vary.
Just as similar to other streaming platforms, FX has loads of TV shows and series. FX is on Hulu, Apple TV, and more. Popular shows and series on FX include ‘SNOWFALL’, ‘The Bear’, ‘Better Things’, and more.
All of the channels listed are being temporarily taken off of DIRECTV’s rotation for more than 11 million subscribers who are on DIRECTV and U-VERSE. With the new deletion of the streaming services, you aren’t able to access any of the shows and series unless they are on other platforms that DIRECTV and U-VERSE have such as ‘MAX’, previously known as ‘HBO Max’.
Since DIRECTV and U-VERSE failed to have an agreement with Disney, all these channels have been taken off streaming rotation since September 1, 2024.
DIRECTV is essentially not letting the shows appear on the designated channels. To be more specific, if you wanted to watch ‘The Terminator’ and it is streaming on Hulu, then a black screen with white letters saying “Our contract with Hulu, the owner of this channel, has expired.” This goes for any of the channels.
With this delay, I bet many were very upset. Considering subscribers paid about $69.99 to $159.99 for DIRECTV a month, then I would be upset too. Although everyone was under stress because of this deletion, on Saturday, September 14, DIRECTV announced their new agreement with ‘Disney’, which is allowing everyone to access these channels.
