For centuries, the streets of London have been plagued by the memory of the infamous serial killer, Jack the Ripper. Jack the Ripper was active during the late 1800s around the Whitechapel district of London’s East End. Of Jack’s dozens of victims, only 5 bodies were connected back to the assailant by the police. The 5 known victims of the sinister serial killer were Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine (Kate) Eddowes, and Mary Jane Kelly, or as they were popularly known, the “Canonical Five”.
The five women suffered from the brutal attacks of Jack the Ripper. The killer would assault and brutally murder his victims and leave them for dead in the back alleys in the Whitechapel district. For decades, the reason for these women’s tragic end have been speculated by police officers and psychologists throughout Europe. For many years, the identity of Jack the Ripper has been theorized, but no one was able to unmask the mysteriously dreadful murderer.
During mid-February of this year, historian Russel Edwards uncovered the true identity of the malicious murderer. Edwards came into possession of a shawl from one of the descendants of one of Jack’s victims, which contained traces of blood and Jack’s DNA. Thanks to the advancements in DNA analysis and DNA matching, the historian was able to find him. After nearly 130 years of fear and questions regarding who he is and where he went, we have uncovered the true identity of Jack the Ripper. Aaron Kosminski, a 23-year-old Polish immigrant. Kosminski moved to England as a child and worked as a Barber in the Whitechapel district, the location of all of his murders.
According to Edwards’ findings, Kosminski had shown signs of having a mental illness in the 1880s and had been committed to a number of insane asylums. He died at the age of 53 in one of the mental institutions he was admitted to. Despite others uncertainty towards Edwards’ findings, Edwards’ confirmation that the DNA was 100% from Kosminski, shut skeptics’ speculations down. There it is the final reveal. One of history’s oldest mysteries has come to an end. Sadly, those victims will not receive the justice they deserve and hopefully whatever other victims that have been left undiscovered will be found and laid to rest.
