West Boca’s new Japanese teacher

Alexa Smith, Staff Writer

This year, West Boca has made an addition to their language classes and has happily added a Japanese class as a language option. Satoko Nourishirazi is the new Japanese teacher and has been teaching the language for 30 years and began teaching English in Japan. She has taught all grades and levels, including college. She has wanted to teach it since she was little and is very passionate about her class and feels strongly about the positive impact the class has on her students. This year there is only one level of the Japanese class, but next year we will hopefully be expanding to Japanese 1 and 2. Aside from learning the language, the students are also taught about the Japanese culture as a whole and participate in activities like making cultural foods and learning dances. Nourishirazi does not believe the curriculum to be too hard and feels that her students are extremely motivated and are enjoying the class.
