Over the weekend, I went to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios. I had been to halloween events like haunted houses, but this was a completely different experience. It was very different from what I expected, but in a good way. There are a few things I would’ve done differently, but overall I had a good time there with my friends and family.
I had been to Universal before but never for Halloween Horror Nights. I was surprised by how elaborate the decorations were. At Halloween Horror nights there are multiple haunted houses, as well as some rides that are open. There are also scare zones, which are certain areas where scare actors can scare you. They can jump out at you, yell at you, and can even chase you but are not allowed to physically touch you. They had actors on stilts and even some with chainsaws. Even the music there was creepy. Personally, I thought the actors chasing you with chainsaws was the scariest part.
There were 10 haunted houses and 5 scare zones each with their own themes. The house themes this year were “Stranger Things 4 Try to Escape the Curse of Vecna, The Exorcist: Believer An Evil Reawakened, The Last of Us™ Step Into the World of The Last of Us™, Chucky: Ultimate Kill Count Chucky’s Back for Even More Carnage, Universal Monsters: Unmasked Four Universal Monsters. One New Nightmare, Dr. Oddfellow’s Twisted Origins: Your Soul is a Price He’s Willing to Pay, Dueling Dragons: Choose Thy Fate, No Matter Who You Choose, You Lose, YETI: Campground Kills: Yeti or Not, Here They Come, The Darkest Deal: Fame is Fleeting. Fear is Forever. , Bloodmoon: Dark Offerings”. Everything down to the displays, costumes, actors, music, and even lighting was amazing. All of the scenes were so interesting to look at. Having seen the movies that correlate with the houses, it was really cool to see them come to life. Although I only got to go in 4 I still had a lot of fun.
One of the downsides to Halloween Horror nights is the long lines. Luckily I was able to get a fast pass before they sold out which is basically a necessity. I don’t think it is worth it to go without a fast pass because the regular lines were around 2 hours long. The issue with the fast passes is that they sell out. They are also an extra cost. Not only are the lines for the rides and houses long, but so are the food/drink lines. I also went on a Saturday so it was very crowded. I would recommend maybe going on a weekday to try and avoid some of the crowds, but either way there will be long lines.
Overall, I did have a very good time. I think it was a very fun activity to experience with family or friends. The decorations, actors, and everything down to the lighting and music were amazing. I would totally recommend going if you are able to get a fast pass.
Happy Halloween!
