A Year to Remember

It is without a doubt that what the girls’ tennis program has accomplished over my four years at West Boca has been remarkable. However, being able to watch the work that all the players and coaches do each and every season is even more impressive. Since I joined West Boca’s tennis team the girls have made it to the state tournament each year and went home with some hardware in two of those. Coached by Pam Telford, Brad Bluhm, and Dave Currier the girls have been able to accomplish so much. Though they see fantastic players graduate and move on every season, they always find a way to reload to come back even stronger the next year. The reason for this is the winning culture the program has created.

The girls’ tennis team took care of business in the regular season and were led by captains Alice Mikulinsky and Ally Nerf. They would continue their dominance in the district tournament where they would secure their fourth district championship in four years. They would move on to play Merritt Island in the regional semifinals. Once they had taken care of Merritt they came back two days later to play Jensen Beach, a district rival, in the regional finals to secure their ticket to the state tournament. They started off the tournament hot taking down Gainesville, but would lose a hard-fought match to Doral the next day and Doral would go on to win the entire state tournament. Although the season may not have ended the way they wanted, there is still lots for the girls to be proud of, winning both districts and regionals. Good luck next season! Go Bulls!
