The Vanguard pep band here at West Boca had a booming start to the season. On Wednesday, August 14, 2024 the band of 170 students stood outside in an arc formation and played a combination of new and old music for their family, friends, and alumni. Before their preview, the students, working with their band director Mr. Lawrence Shane, practiced all the music for the night’s festivities.
There was nothing getting in their way! Regardless of storms in the area, they moved their practice inside to wait out the storm and carried on. While inside they focused on perfecting the memorization of their music for both that night and football season. The conducting and signals from the student drum majors kept the young musicians not only on beat, but on the correct songs. When everyone arrived the pep band played Espresso, Final Countdown, Do Watcha Wanna, and our fight song Skin I’m In. After a wonderful performance, the band along with their family and friends, headed over to the cafeteria where they ended the night eating desserts together.
This isn’t the end of the Vanguard though! Expect to see the band a lot more as the year commences. Along with the songs that are loved and known, the band has added Espresso, Final Countdown, Hot To Go, and Million Dollar Baby to their repertoire. These songs are sure to increase the pep at the football games. The band will soon be seen playing on the field during halftime and making the entrance tunnel for the football games. Besides any type of sports games that the band is seen playing at the West Boca Vanguard Pep Band will be seen playing at any pep rally that happens at the school.
Looking around the school on game days or pep rally days, students can usually spot a few band kids walking to class in their pep band uniforms. If you need to find a band kid just look for a blue or white shirt that says “West Boca Vanguard” on it paired with long blue and white pants, black marching band shoes, and a blue jacket. These uniforms help the band be recognized not only as musicians, but as a force of unity that works together to keep the enthusiasm within the school increasing. Every student who participates in the band is committed to working hard and trying their best to memorize all the songs played so they sound just as good infront of an audience than when playing in practice with sheet music.
