You may be wondering, “What’s this so-called LightSpeed product?” Well I’m here to give you all the insider information on the new system that all Palm Beach Schools have recently implemented as an extra layer of support for the safety of the students and school. To get some more insight I spoke to our assistant principal Ms.Ostrow! Ms.Ostrow was able to give me some more information on the entirety of this new installation.
First, let me start off by explaining what the actual product is and what it will be doing. Ms.Ostrow explained that the product is a “student safety monitoring tool” designed to help schools identify potential safety concerns and address them. The product will be implemented on district accounts and devices. The system will be able to monitor when a student is logged in on a District account, even if it isn’t on a district-provided device. The product ensures that students aren’t saying anything that would be flagged as concerning or harmful to themselves and/or others.
You may also be asking, “Well, what if something a student says DOES get flagged? What happens then?” What happens is the administration is notified, and they are able to view the flagged statement and determine whether or not the flagged item is a concern and must be addressed. After they meet with the student and address the situation, they can provide services to fit the student’s needs.
To wrap it all up, the recently implemented LightSpeed Alert product is representative of a proactive plan by the Palm Beach Schools to enhance student and staff safety. Its ability to monitor and keep track of communication on district accounts helps identify possible concerns early on, allowing the school staff to intervene and provide support. The system isn’t designed to control or enhance student information but to provide an extra layer of security and safety for students and staff.
