Last week, multiple schools from the club DECA were invited to go to NASCAR to meet with their lovely marketing staff, and learn about the behind-the-scenes process that goes into every experience. One of their business partners Coca-Cola, was there to tell everyone how that process works to partner with NASCAR. After that, there were three representatives from each location, Talladega,Alabama; Daytona, Florida, and Homestead, Miami. They had so much advice for all the students listening. One of their biggest pieces of advice for everyone was to have a LinkedIn to apply for jobs and Internships. Another was to have a mentor and not try to be someone you aren’t.
The next stop was to see the stage where they presented the trophies. To get there, we took one of the trollies that give behind the scene tours. After that, we had about a 2-hour break period where everyone got their dinner and watched the racers warm up on the track. Around 6pm they opened the gate to let everyone go onto the track. The speedway is on a 31-degree incline, which is a very challenging climb for some. 30 minutes before the prequalifying race, they had the national anthem sung by a local school’s choir, and had all the racers come out to bring the energy in the stands! All the schools were mentioned on the screen, which is a great honor!
The race began around 7pm and the West Boca group stayed till 9 pm returning to school at 1 am. For any future students going into business or marketing, the DECA club here at school is a great opportunity and resume-builder for anyone who wants that intended major.
