West Boca Varsity Basketball Announces 2023-24 Schedule

The 2023-24 schedule for the West Boca varsity basketball team has been released.

Coming off a disappointing 8-18 season, the Bulls are looking to get back on track under head coach Bradford Flaig.

But it won’t be easy as West Boca’s top two shooters graduated last season – Luke Rhodes and Jack Lillich. Point guard Ryan Waugh is also gone after transferring to Palm Beach Central, as well as Delven Dorsonne, who transferred to Northeast.

Luckily, the Bulls have a new look with point guard Mason Mallory, the starting quarterback for the West Boca football team. Mallory did not play basketball last season due to personal choice.

Michael Bonina is expected to be West Boca’s top scorer this season. Last season in 25 games, Bonina averaged 12.6 PPG (2nd on the team), totaling a team-high 315 points on the season.

Just two years ago, West Boca basketball was the best team in Boca with a combined 6-0 record against Boca High, Olympic Heights, and Spanish River, finishing with an overall 18-7 record. It would be nice to see the Bulls have that kind of success this season.

Despite having a .308 win percentage last year, the Bulls did go 3-0 in district play.

West Boca’s district (6A District 13) consists of:

  • Atlantic
  • Blanche Ely
  • Coconut Creek
  • Dwyer (per FHSAA, the ninth best team in the state)
  • Seminole Ridge

Dwyer is, without a doubt, the best team in the district, but West Boca does not have a matchup against them this season. Dwyer went 29-1 last year, winning their fourth state championship in program history.

Below is the schedule for this season. To say the least, it is a winnable schedule with no matchups against powerhouses.

Howdy! I’m Isaac Edelman and I’m a senior at West Boca Raton Community High School. I’m an aspiring sports broadcaster and reporter, always seeking to improve my craft. I love sports writing and public speaking. In the future, I would like to become a beat writer or/and a reporter for a professional sports team. I would also love to be a play-by-play announcer or news anchor. As part of The Bullseye, I write many sports articles, run our social media pages (@wbhsbullseye), and make sure everything runs smoothly on the technology part of the site (behind the scenes). I hope to provide students with the best and latest sports news. I am excited to be an Editor-in-Chief for The Bullseye this school year!
