Behind The Bullseye: A Sneak Peak into our Student-Run Newspaper

Beyond the widely known @wbhsbullseye Instagram page that has surpassed 2,000 followers, many students are oblivious to the school newspaper. Mrs. Rosenblum’s 5th-period class, or “Journalism Honors” as it’s known in SIS, is dedicated to the operation of the website you are on right now.

So, what exactly goes on during this class? The 14-person staff works collectively to gather information on current news events that pertain to the school on Mondays during a “Brainstorm” session led by Editor-in-Chief Gabriella Zarubinsky. Tuesday through Thursday are dedicated to the actual interview and writing process– a time that is well received for passionate journalists. After a lengthy editing process, Friday is the day that the entire staff assembles their articles with pictures and publishes them to the website.

While it’s very possible that this is your first time on our site, the articles written by our staff have generated significant buzz. The Bullseye has accumulated 8,600 stories read, 8,106 unique viewers, and 10,044 page views, all in the last month. As a reporter for The Bullseye, the published writing is read by a diverse audience of teachers, students, and community members.

Editors Gabriella Zarubinsky and Isaac Edelman have taken charge this year in growing the outreach of our newspaper. Isaac Edeman, known for his social media and sports prowess, has grown the school’s athletic coverage tenfold under The Bullseye’s name. Gabriella, who focuses on the actual editing process, has continued to ensure every article published under The Bullseye’s name is of top quality

Writing isn’t the only undertaking the staff has taken on this year, with photography becoming a main staple of the work done by the newspaper. Rebecca Kittay, the staff’s lead photographer, has captured some of the school’s most iconic moments– such as the historic aviation academy visit to Boca Raton’s airport pictured below.

Hey everyone! I’m Dylan Gaynor, a Junior at West Boca. This is my second year on the staff and I’m so excited! When I’m not writing for The Bullseye, you can find me either at the gym or working at Chick-Fil-A (It really is my pleasure). In terms of writing, current events are my go-to genre with a focus on Politics and Government. I’m looking forward to a great year of coverage!

Hi! I'm Rebecca Kittay. This is my second year on the Bullseye and I am the Photography Editor.  I'm on the varsity girls golf team and in the culinary academy.  I am interested in photography and music so I’ll be planning on writing articles about these topics. I also will be taking pictures at many school events- especially the various sports games!
