The long awaited time, cuffin’ season, has arrived! Cuffing season is a period where two people become partners. This may sound like a normal relationship, but there is a catch. These relationships supposedly have a set time period.
Cuffing season starts usually at the beginning of October and ends soon after Saint Valentine’s Day. The reason why it starts during October and ends around February is because of the temperature. This allows the couple to cuddle up and stay warm during the cold without needing to commit to a relationship for too long. Also, during winter there is a lack of sunlight and outdoor activities, which can lead to depression and loneliness. Some believe that having a partner around can help with this. Many others believe during warmer times like summer everyone is moving around and are busy.
To my shock, the slogan ‘Cuffin Season’ began in 2011 in a college newspaper. Personally, I believe the cuffing season trend became popular from a SNL skit on December 4th 2022. This skit consisted of Keke Palmer, SZA, Cecily Strong, Ego Nwodim, and Punkie Johnson. In the skit these ladies sang about cuffin season. Many fans of SZA complained in the comment section that the song is so catchy and they wished she posted a full version.
I’ve also heard there are some rules during cuffing season. These rules are listed below from health.clevelandclinic.org.
Rules
- Be mindful of your desire for a relationship
- Be clear about what you’re seeking in the long and short term
- Define your relationship
- Don’t make plans too far in advance
- Prepare for the holidays
- Set healthy emotional and physical boundaries
- Don’t ghost the relationship.
Will you be cuffin’ this season?
