RomComs are Back! – How to Date Billy Walsh Review

How to Date Billy Walsh Movie Collage

If you’re looking for a sweet, 90’s inspired romcom, I’d run into the arms of Prime Video’s new movie, How to Date Billy Walsh!

In an embraced cliche, geeky student Archie (Sebastian Croft) has hatched the perfect plan to tell his best friend, Amelia (Charithra Chandran), that he loves her, until she catches the eye of the Californian surfer, Billy Walsh (Tanner Buchanan). As Amelia’s crush grows stronger, Archie tries just about everything in order to stop her escapades, except for simply telling her that he loves her. But with a funny twist and a dramatic speech at prom, will Archie finally be able to declare his love and win the girl of his dreams?

This movie is a delightful watch! The consistent fourth wall breaks make viewers feel connected to Archie and his circumstances, even though some of his choices will have you banging your head against the wall. Amelia and her optimistic outlook on life creates a character that everyone will fall in love with, just as she falls for Billy Walsh. And the northern England prep school setting absolutely romanticizes going to class the next day.

While some of the choices in the film are not my personal favorites, such as MANY of Archie’s stupid decisions and the lack of momentum towards the middle of the movie, overall it was a really enjoyable film that is sure to make you smile.

The way that the movie played into stereotypical cliche roles is endearing and transports you to a colorful world of romance. Classic 90’s romcoms are back!
